The Goat Village, Kanatal...

The Goat Village, Kanatal...

As a family, we are always seeking out for places less traveled and in one of such a search, I stumbled upon this gem, called Kanatal.

Kanatal in Uttaranchal, is absolutely serene and beautiful, still untouched and lesser known to the regular tourist. Rather, it is a place to be visited only by travelers and not tourists!

What made our trip to Kanatal even more memorable was definitely another lucky find, The Goat Village.
The Goat Village, Kanatal, gives the traveler a unique home stay experience.
It has 3 cottages, providing basic but very comfortable living experience to the guest. The stay here will surely bring out the adventurer in you, provided you are someone who is looking out to be with nature and not the kind seeking out city luxuries even in the mountains/wilderness!

Kanatal, is a paradise for nature lovers. And if you happen to be staying in The Goat village then it would surely be an added reason to want to come back here again and again.
On a clear day, waking up to the sunrise, to one of the best views of the Himalayan Ranges is definitely something one can die for! And if you are lucky and the weather gods are kind enough, then you can see the changing face of the ranges as the day progresses!
Listening to the birds chirp, breathing lung full of fresh air, going for super exciting hikes into the Kodia forest, and not to miss the super awesome Pahadi food, are reason enough, not to want to ever go back to your city life again!

So if you are one of those who look out for a different kind of holiday, the kind where your main agenda is to escape the city life and be in the lap of nature, do check out Kanatal and The Goat Village.

Some important things to keep in mind, if you (specifically) plan a visit to, The Goat Village Kanatal:

1.   It is a hike of about 800 meters from the nearest motor able road to the property. So keep the luggage minimal. (Though they do provide, mules to carry the luggage both ways, at an extra cost, but then why make a poor animal carry what you can carry yourself!)

2.   Within the premises, there is minimal electricity only in the common/dining area and the kitchen. Rest of the space doesn't have electricity by design and gets lit up on candles and kerosene lamps in the evenings. Solar lamps are provided during the nights. Hot water is provided in buckets from a common source.

3.   The Goat Village, encourages re-use and recycle hence the cottages are also made of refurbished material. It also encourages minimum waste creation.
