Ramgarh, a tranquil hill station in the Kumaon Division of Uttaranchal.

If you happen to be someone who wants to spend time in the lap of nature and serenity then one such destination is definitely Ramgarh, a tranquil hill station situated at an altitude of 1789 m above the sea level in the Kumaon Division of Uttaranchal.

It is an idyllic place for leisurely holidays in peace and abundance of scenic beauty with pleasant weather conditions. It is a perfect place for nature lovers. One can enjoy the majestic view of the snow-capped ranges, gaze at the star-lit sky in the night, marvel at the sunrise and sunset, and admire the beauty of the mighty Himalayas.

Ramgarh is also famous for it’s orchards of Peach, Apricots, and Apples and is also known as the "Fruit Bowl of Kumaon".

It was once home to the English army.
The Old Bungalow and The Writers' Bungalow, once housed the British and Indian officers as well as their wives who traveled on horseback and palanquins.
These heritage structures have now been converted into “non-hotel” hotels, and run by the Neemrana Properties.

The peaceful ambience of Ramgarh has attracted in-numerous nature lovers, writers, artists for years - Rabindranath Tagore stayed here in “The Writers' Bungalow” and even contemplated setting up his university Shantiniketan in this lovely hill resort. He composed some of his compositions at Ramgarh.
Rabindra Nath Tagore and Narain Swami had also established their ashrams over here. Mahadevi Verma also visited the hill station of Ramgarh. Even Sri Aurobindo succumbed to Ramgarh and the tranquil charms of this beautiful hill station and established an ashram here.

I spent a week with my family, in this paradise at the onset of this year. It was an awesome time spent going for jungle walks, hiking, bird watching and having a great time making a great use of my camera. We stayed at The Old Bungalow, Neemrana. It was a great stay. A special mention to the staff, they were wonderful: Mr. Shailendar Singh(Manager), Rajdeep (House Keeping), Sanjay (Room Service), Ram and Krishna (Kitchen).

On the way to Ramgarh, that is if you are travelling by road, while crossing Haldwani do pay a visit to "Pots n Stones, The Garden Cafe". Food and the ambience of the place is amazing!

Statutory warning: If one is looking for city “action” in the mountains then please stay away from Ramgarh!
